The First Step wanted a film to highlight the signs of coercive control. While researching for the script, we were shocked to find that 1 in 5 domestic violence femicides in the UK involve sons killing their mothers. It’s not something that’s often spoken about, but with coercive control across all relationships on the rise, it felt important to highlight. And so, behind closed doors was born.

I just wrote the script. The fantasic Libby Burke Wilde and new-land team brought this to life.
